Millions of dollars worth of equipment is thrown away each year because it no longer performs efficiently. A large percentage of this equipment could, however, be protected by hardfacing or reclaimed by welding. In many cases, the degeneration of the equipment could have been stopped if preventative maintenance was carried out as a matter of routine.
